One story from the middle ages that is always told is Beowulf and Grendel, which is about a warrior defeating a monster. Beowulf went to save King Hrothgar from the scary monster Grendel. Beowulf defeated Grendel by ripping off his arm. Grendel’s mother was very angry that her son was killed so she went to King Hrothgar’s hall trying to attack people. Once again Beowulf saved the day by defeating Grendel’s mother with his magical sword. Beowulf also helped during a battle between the Vikings and king Hygelac’s army.
Eventually Beowulf became king of a group called the geats. He was king of the geats for 50 years and when he died he was definitely remembered. There are many different versions of this story because there are different authors. The author is still unknown because people didn’t have a lot of technology back then. But people do know that the story was made or told in the 1000s. Beowulf was a poem, but many people today just call it a story instead.
