The Catholic Church had the highest power in the feudal system. The cathedral was the workplace of the bishop. Cathedrals were built in the shape of a cross that had stained glass windows inside. Cathedrals were built all over the world, but mainly in Europe. The Catholic Church was the richest during the middle ages. Inside the cathedrals people just walked around or knelt on the stone floor because there weren’t chairs or benches inside. It was also a meeting place for people and a place of prayer.
Bishops helped the priests with their needs and anything else. Priests ran the ceremonies in church and forgave people of their sins through confession. Monks were humble scholars who lived in monasteries together. Sometimes monks educated nobles’ sons to see if they wanted to become a monk. Nuns were the least educated out of everyone else in the clergy. Widows would become nuns or families would place their daughters into convents too also become nuns. And during the middle ages they tried to mix political and religious power together, which is definitely not something that we do today.
